Welcome to My Blog! I'm a retired art teacher who wants to continue sharing the many benefits of creating art with others. I am also a metastatic breast cancer thriver and have been amazed at how healing and therapeutic the art process can be.

I was diagnosed with stage four breast cancer in 2022 and was told that I may only have a few more years to live. At 51 years old, I was devastated that I might be done with this beautiful life that I have created with my husband and three children. Very Ironically, thinking that I was close to dying, I started allowing myself to live the way I wanted to and to do all the things that I always wanted to do.

After one year of Targeted Therapy I was diagnosed NED, or No Evidence of Disease, which is the closest I could get to being in remission. Since then I have traveled, told the people I love how important they are to me, made spending time with my loved ones my number two priority with taking care of myself my number one goal.

When I say I take care of myself, I mean body, mind and soul everyday and then repeat. Much of the art I want to make now will be about that. How I make my very mortal body feel good in the midst of an incurable disease is deepening my relationship with myself. I feel better now than I ever have. I have learned to love myself, worts and all.

One of the things that helps me the most when I am overwhelmed by fear

is staying in the present moment. In this wonderful moment I am safe and healthy. Creating art is a wonderful way to just be here now.

Get a journal and join me in expressing your very unique self while we still can. I will share art therapy topics with you and would love to see what you create as well.
